Pre-Session: Sensex, Nifty likely to open higher; WPI data eyed

Domestic bourses are expected to start the day on positive note on Friday. Investors will gauge the extent and effect of the coronavirus. The death toll from a coronavirus outbreak in China’s Hubei province rose by 116 on Friday. However, China did not disclose the total number of deaths, which stood at 1,310 on Thursday.

Investors will also react to India's 'BBB-' rating affirmation by Standard and Poor that maintained a "stable" outlook. The global agency said that despite a notable deceleration in India's economy in recent quarters, it believes India's structural growth outperformance remains intact.

Besides, they will track corporate earnings for stock-specific action and the WPI inflation numbers which will be released later in the day.

Investors will react to corporate results announced post market hours yesterday. Vodafone Idea's consolidated loss in the December quarter expanded to Rs 6,439 crore while food and beverages major Nestle India reported an 18 per cent YoY jump in its profit before tax for the quarter.

A total of 946 companies, including ONGC, Embassy Office Parks REIT, and Fortis Healthcare are scheduled to announce their December quarter earnings today.

On Thursday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 41459.79 down by -106.11 points or by -0.26 % and then NSE Nifty was at 12174.65 down by -26.55 points or by -0.22 %.

On the global front, shares eased as hopes of an early end to coronavirus fade away. MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan dipped 0.08 per cent with South Korea's Kospi falling 0.25 per cent. Japan's Nikkei slid 0.67 per cent.

China’s Hubei province on Friday reported 4,823 new cases, while the death toll rose by 116.

On Wall Street, technology shares dragged the Dow Jones 0.43 per cent lower. The S&P 500 lost 0.16 per cent, and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 0.14 per cent.

Total numbers of contracts for index options were 39995304 with a total turnover of Rs. 2731305.82 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 693479 with a total turnover of Rs. 51894.08 Crore.

The FIIs on 13/02/2020 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 4949.58 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 963.32 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 5612.59 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 1706.64 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. -663.01 Crore and Rs. -743.32
