Sensex, Nifty open in red; Rupee opens at 70.95

India's stock market opened lower by 142 pts on Thursday morning, led by weak Asian cues. DHFL, Yes Bank fell up to 6 percent in early deals. Bharti Airtel, Reliance Industries jumped up to 3 percent. Overseas, the Asian stocks were trading mostly lower, following a muted closing at Wall Street in overnight trade, after reports that Washington and Beijing were making no progress in deputy-level talks.

Meanwhile, the Indian rupee gained in the early trade on Thursday. It has opened higher by 12 paise at 70.95 per dollar against previous close 71.07. Whereas, Brent crude settled at $58.32 a barrel, up 8 cents.

At 9:22 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 38036.01, down by -141.94 points or by -0.37 per cent, and the NSE Nifty was at 11280.5, down by -32.8 points or by -0.29 per cent.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were YES Bank Ltd. (Rs. 41.90,-3.01%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 428.85,-1.78%), State Bank of India (Rs. 256.75,-1.59%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 119.10,-1.45%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 331.60,-1.41%), among others.

On the flip side, the top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 381.05,+6.07%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1334.55,+0.66%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 126.70,+0.60%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 786.00,+0.26%), Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (Rs. 2610.25,+0.25%), among others.

On the sectoral front, Bank and CGS stocks were among top losers on BSE, falling as much as 1.1 per cent and 0.8 per cent, respectively.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 981 , shares advanced were 428 while 515 shares declined and 38 were unchanged.
