Sensex gains 200 pts, Nifty crosses 11,400; Kotak Mahindra up 2%

Indian benchmark indices opened positive on Friday taking cues from Asian peers. Among the sectors, auto, IT, energy, bank, infra and pharma indices are witnessing buying, while FMCG and metal stocks are under pressure. The Indian rupee opened flat at 69.33 per dollar on Friday versus 69.35 yesterday. The shares of Banks are trading more than 1 per cent high. The shares of Kotak Mahindra Bank are trading 2 per cent high and IndusInd Bank around 2 per cent.

At 9:26 hours, the SENSEX was trading at 37957.67 up by 202.78 points or by 0.54 per cent and then NSE Nifty was at 11403.25 up by 60 points or by 0.53 per cent.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex were Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1296.20,+2.02%), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1712.20,+1.75%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 394.25,+1.64%), State Bank of India (Rs. 294.45,+1.13%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 189.30,+0.99%), among others. The top losers of the BSE Sensex were Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 238.65,-1.93%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 1706.10,-1.80%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 339.05,-1.11%), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 3003.40,-0.24%), Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (Rs. 2753.00,-0.09%), among others.

Among sectors, Bankex index was at 32791.88 up by 390.51 points or by 1.21%. Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1296.20,+2.02%), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1712.20,+1.75%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 394.25,+1.64%), State Bank of India (Rs. 294.45,+1.13%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 747.60,+0.97%),. On the flip side, FMCG index was at 11774.33 down by -45.16 points or by -0.38%. Kwality Ltd. (Rs. 7.04,-4.99%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 1706.10,-1.80%), Nestle India Ltd. (Rs. 10613.70,-1.20%), KRBL Ltd. (Rs. 366.35,-1.13%), Dabur India Ltd. (Rs. 434.65,-0.98%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 1327 , shares advanced were 906 while 365 shares declined and 56 were unchanged.
