Mid Session: Sensex under pressure; Nifty above 10400 mark

Benchmark indices recovered lost ground by noon with the Nifty50 index reclaiming the 10,400 mark after opening sharply lower on Monday.

Other Asian markets were trading mixed, as relief US-led strikes on Syria looked unlikely to escalate was tempered by concerns at Russia’s potential reaction to new sanctions from Washington.

At 12:30 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 34139.3 down by 53.35 points or by 0.16 % and then NSE Nifty was at 10471.15 down by 9.45 points or by 0.09 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 34169.29 and intraday low of 33899.34 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 10477.65 and intraday low of 10396.35

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 518.30,+0.99%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 1173.95,+0.96%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 263.30,+0.96%), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 1856.60,+0.87%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 794.90,+0.86%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 193.80,-4.44%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 341.00,-4.39%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1133.25,-3.06%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 180.55,-1.07%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 589.10,-1.04%), among others.

Among the sectors, HCS index was at 13821.59 up by 142.07 points or by 1.04%. Kopran Ltd. (Rs. 68.95,+8.24%), Gufic BioSciences Ltd. (Rs. 127.40,+4.60%), Cipla Ltd. (Rs. 577.85,+4.19%), IOL Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals Ltd. (Rs. 98.60,+2.76%), Divi's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 1169.00,+2.21%),.

On the flip side, IT index was at 12651.19 down by -130.43 points or by -1.02%. MIC Electronics Ltd. (Rs. 5.42,-4.91%), Lycos Internet Ltd. (Rs. 4.65,-3.93%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1133.25,-3.06%), NIIT Ltd. (Rs. 105.55,-2.85%), Trigyn Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 143.00,-1.75%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2750 , shares advanced were 1070 while 1496 shares declined and 184 were unchanged.
