Sensex rises over 100 points, Nifty near 10,500; ONGC, Tata Motors top gainers

Indian benchmarks were trading higher with BSE Sensex touching 33,800 points in the afternoon trade on Monday. The Nifty too set a new record and was trading above 10,450.

Meanwhile, Oil prices hit their highest levels since July 2015 early on Monday as markets tightened, while Saudi Arabia's crown prince cemented his power over the weekend through an anti-corruption crackdown that included high profile arrests.

In addition, the Indian rupee slipped in early trade today. It has opened lower by 10 paise at 64.65 per dollar versus 64.55 Friday.

At 13:11 hours, BSE SENSEX was at 33795.29 up by 109.73 points or by 0.33 % and then NSE Nifty was at 10477.8 up by 25.3 points or by 0.24 %.

The BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 33814.94 and intraday low of 33582.38. The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 10479.9 and intraday low of 10413.75.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 257.50,+4.29%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 198.20,+3.58%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 458.00,+2.48%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1361.45,+2.28%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 8350.05,+1.63%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 544.75,-1.35%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1004.25,-1.12%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 534.40,-1.04%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 1162.55,-0.92%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 937.10,-0.90%), among others.

Among the sectors, BSE_CDS index was at 20047.32 up by 1445.1 points or by 7.77%. Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 771.00,+16.92%), PC Jeweller Ltd. (Rs. 373.20,+5.48%), Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 222.10,+2.47%), Nilkamal Ltd. (Rs. 1644.40,+2.01%), Bajaj Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 396.00,+0.60%).

On the other hand, BSE Oil&Gas index was at 16507.68 down by -16.37 points or by -0.1%. Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 521.10,-2.38%), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 435.20,-2.24%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 937.20,-0.89%), Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 408.70,-0.86%), Indraprastha Gas Ltd. (Rs. 1565.60,-0.60%).

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2970, shares advanced were 1602 while 1209 shares declined and 159 were unchanged.
