Mid-Session: Markets remain flat; Bankex & metal stocks weigh

Indian benchmarks continued to trade flat during the noon trading session as Asian peers tumble from recent decade highs on Monday and oil jumped to a more than two-year peak as Saudi Arabia’s crown prince cemented his power through an anti-corruption crackdown.

At 12:20 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 33689.4 up by 3.84 points or by 0.01 per cent, while the NSE Nifty was at 10442.75 down by 9.75 points or by 0.09 per cent.

Sentiments were dampened on foreign brokerage report which highlighting adverse macroeconomic impact of rise in crude oil prices, said every $10 per barrel rise in the price will worsen India’s fiscal balance by 0.1 percent and current account balance by 0.4 percent of GDP.

In the choppy trade so-far, Sensex touched intraday high of 33712.29 and intraday low of 33582.38 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 10453.25 and intraday low of 10413.75.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 198.50,+3.74%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 254.10,+2.92%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1354.00,+1.72%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 8343.80,+1.55%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 452.00,+1.14%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 531.60,-1.56%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 179.85,-1.26%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 934.50,-1.17%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1004.45,-1.10%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 546.60,-1.01%), among others.

Among the sectors, CDS index was at 20100.3 up by 1498.08 points or by 8.05%. Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 775.50,+17.61%), PC Jeweller Ltd. (Rs. 376.00,+6.27%), Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 220.70,+1.82%), Bajaj Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 397.10,+0.88%), Nilkamal Ltd. (Rs. 1624.15,+0.76%),.

On the flip side, BSE_Bankex index was at 29015.13 down by -77.01 points or by -0.26%. Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 531.60,-1.56%), Punjab National Bank (Rs. 204.50,-1.35%), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1654.55,-1.20%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2802 , shares advanced were 1497 while 1143 shares declined and 162 were unchanged.
