Sensex advances over 100 pts, Nifty rises above 10,450; Banking stocks gain

The key Indian benchmarks continued to trade steady as global investors gave a guarded reception to Republican plans for massive US tax cuts, while welcoming the appointment of a centrist at the helm of the Federal Reserve.

At 14:06 hours, BSE SENSEX was at 33682.54 up by 109.32 points or by 0.33 % and NSE Nifty was at 10455.95 up by 32.15 points or by 0.31 %.

Globally, European markets are mixed today. The FTSE 100 is up 0.30% while the DAX gains 0.27%. The CAC 40 is off 0.08%.

The BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 33700.79 and intraday low of 33531.94. The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 10461.7 and intraday low of 10403.6.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were State Bank of India (Rs. 320.05,+1.62%), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 1784.80,+1.32%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 536.55,+1.22%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 549.60,+1.20%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1225.00,+1.15%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 554.05,-1.62%), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 287.50,-1.42%), Lupin Ltd. (Rs. 1046.10,-1.40%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 212.45,-1.19%), Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (Rs. 3692.50,-1.09%), among others.

Among the sectors, BSE_Bankex index was at 29052.06 up by 248.96 points or by 0.86%. Punjab National Bank (Rs. 208.25,+5.55%), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1670.30,+2.55%), YES Bank Ltd. (Rs. 327.25,+2.15%), State Bank of India (Rs. 320.05,+1.62%), Bayer Cropscience Ltd. (Rs. 3800.30,+1.26%).

On the other hand, BSE_HCS index was at 14544.22 down by -67.7 points or by -0.46%. Natco Pharma Ltd. (Rs. 948.00,-4.89%), Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Ltd. (Rs. 631.00,-2.71%), Divi's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 1046.40,-2.60%), Cadila Healthcare Ltd. (Rs. 498.80,-1.98%), Kopran Ltd. (Rs. 71.20,-1.93%).

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2923, shares advanced were 1563 while 1224 shares declined and 136 were unchanged.
