Sensex, Nifty firm ahead of CPI, IIP data

The key domestic benchmark indices continued to trade firm during the noon trading session ahead of September CPI inflation and August industrial output data due later today.

At 13:25 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 31925.37 up by 91.38 points or by 0.29 while the NSE Nifty was at 10018.55 up by 33.75 points or by 0.34 per cent.

Earnings season for September quarter kicks off today. Among Nifty companies, TCS and IndusInd Bank are scheduled to report their Q2 numbers later in the day.

In the positive trade so-far, Sensex touched intraday high of 31985.75 and intraday low of 31813.67 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 10037.05 and intraday low of 9977.1.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 535.25,+1.80%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 177.30,+1.37%), Lupin Ltd. (Rs. 1059.75,+1.36%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 1232.60,+1.25%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 850.20,+1.17%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 231.30,-1.45%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 398.25,-1.28%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 410.40,-1.17%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 921.10,-1.02%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 1150.00,-0.90%), among others.

Among the sectors, Metal index was at 14135.12 up by 147.59 points or by 1.06%. Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. (Rs. 158.55,+4.58%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 260.50,+4.49%), National Aluminium Company Ltd. (Rs. 85.50,+4.27%), Hindustan Zinc Ltd. (Rs. 313.15,+1.28%), Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 317.20,+1.12%),.

On the flip side, PSU index was at 8447.22 down by -5.22 points or by -0.06%. Oriental Bank of Commerce (Rs. 112.60,-2.30%), Bank of India (Rs. 132.00,-2.19%), Canara Bank (Rs. 300.50,-1.51%), Power Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 119.70,-1.32%), Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 144.45,-1.20%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2748 , shares advanced were 1566 while 1068 shares declined and 114 were unchanged.
