Initial public offering (IPO)

Initial public offering is the process by which a private company can go public by sale of its stocks to general public. It could be a new, young company or an old company which decides to be listed on an exchange and hence goes public.

Companies can raise equity capital with the help of an IPO by issuing new shares to the public or the existing shareholders can sell their shares to the public without raising any fresh capital.

Benefit from an IPO

First-mover advantage: You get a chance to buy the company’s shares at a much lower price

High returns: If the company has a potential to grow, buying shares in an IPO can be benefit you. Strong fundamentals of the company mean that it has a good chance of growing bigger.

Listing gains: When a company gets listed on the stock market, it may be traded at a price that is either higher or lower than the allotment price. When the opening price is higher than the allotment price, it is known as listing gains.
